The Martingale system
The oldest and the most popular in Nigeria: stake one unit on an even-money bet, double after every loss, drop back to one unit after a win. Each win claws back all the earlier losses plus one unit of profit. It feels unbeatable because the losing run needed to break it feels impossible. It is not impossible — it is simply rare, and the day it shows up it takes back everything the system ever won.

A ₦100–₦10,000 table gives you seven bets per cycle. That cycle wins ₦100 with probability 99.06% and loses ₦12,700 with probability 0.94%. Expected value per cycle: 0.9906 × ₦100 − 0.0094 × ₦12,700 = −₦21. That is exactly 2.70% of the ₦760 staked on average per cycle — the house edge, untouched. Across 200 spins (roughly 97 cycles) the chance of running into at least one seven-loss streak is about 60%. Move to an American wheel and the bust probability per cycle climbs to 1.12%, with an expected loss per cycle of −₦40.
What table limits are really doing
Players like to blame the table maximum for Martingale's collapse. Take the limit away and the maths does not improve: with an unlimited ceiling and an unlimited bankroll you would eventually close every cycle, but nobody's bankroll is unlimited, and the expected loss per Naira staked sits at 2.70% at every single stage. All the limit decides is where the inevitable loss lands — seven doublings on a 100:1 spread, ten on a 1,000:1 spread (probability of ten straight losses: 0.13%; the bill when it arrives: ₦102,300).
The Fibonacci system
Stakes follow the Fibonacci sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89 — one step forward after a loss, two steps back after a win. Because the climb is gentler than doubling, a single win no longer recovers everything; it recovers the last two losses only. The good news is that a rough streak costs less than under Martingale. The bad news is that you need more wins to get back to where you started.

Fibonacci is Martingale with the brakes fitted. It rides out longer streaks inside the same table limits and loses less when it finally goes, but it also wins less per cycle and spends far more time in recovery. The expected loss is unchanged at 2.70% of every Naira placed.
The D'Alembert system
Add one unit to the bet after a loss, take one off after a win. The theory is that wins and losses will "balance out", leaving one unit of profit for every win. The flaw is the flaw in every progression: wins and losses on a 48.65% bet do not balance. Over a long session the losses edge ahead of the wins, so your stake drifts upward and your average bet quietly grows.

Four wins, four losses, dead level: the system only pays when wins and losses come out equal and the wins happen to land on the bigger stakes. The expected result is still −2.70% of everything staked, and everything staked is more than it would have been at a flat ₦500.
The Labouchère (cancellation) system
Write out a line such as 1-2-3-4. Each bet is the first number plus the last (5 here). Win and you cross both off; lose and you add the amount lost to the end of the line. Empty the line and you have won the total of your original sequence — 10 units. Labouchère feels more disciplined than Martingale because you set the target yourself. It busts just as reliably, because a losing run stretches the line faster than wins can shorten it.

Four wins and four losses hit the target here only because the wins fell on the larger bets. Flip the order of those results and the line stretches to 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 with ₦3,600 gone before a single cancellation. The system needs roughly one win for every two losses to close a line; a 48.65% bet supplies that often enough to feel like it works, and misses often enough to cost 2.70% of everything you stake.
The James Bond strategy
This one is a flat-bet pattern rather than a progression: with ₦20,000, put ₦14,000 on high (19–36), ₦5,000 on the six line 13–18 and ₦1,000 on zero. It covers 25 of the 37 numbers, which is why it wins two spins in three. It is also the cleanest proof that covering more numbers does nothing whatsoever to the edge.

You win 67.6% of spins and still surrender 2.70% of your stake on average, exactly as with any other combination on the felt. Why no system can change expected value
Every spin stands alone. The wheel has no idea that you doubled, and the probability of red is 18/37 whether the chip in your hand is worth ₦100 or ₦12,800. Your session result is the sum of many independent bets, each carrying an expected return of −2.70% of its size. Add up negative numbers of different sizes and you get a negative number. Systems only choose which spins carry the big bets; they cannot make those spins any likelier to win.

Pick a single-zero wheel
European or French. That choice alone drops the house edge from 5.26% to 2.70% — a 49% cut in expected loss for no effort at all. Never play American roulette when another table is open, and never touch the five-number bet (7.89%).
Hunt for la partage or en prison
If even-money bets are your thing, a French table with la partage halves the edge again to 1.35%. Online, open the rules panel and check: plenty of "French" tables are French in layout only. At 1.35%, roulette stands shoulder to shoulder with the baccarat banker bet.
Match the bet type to the session you want
